Abstract

526,806. Resilient supports. MANGANESE BRONZE & BRASS CO., Ltd., and WHITTING- HAM, C. Jan. 20, 1939, No. 1994. [Class 108 (iii)] A resilient support for a machine comprises an upper member 1 of channel section with side flanges 2, 3 overlapping vertical flanges 4, 5 of two angle irons. The upper member has an aperture 6 for a bolt. The spaces between the flanges are filled with rubber 7, 8, which is subjected to shear, while the portion extending above the flanges 4, 5 is under compression. Four such supports may be used to support a machine. In Fig. 5 the rubber may be extended, and may contain triangular grooves 13, 14, 15, 16 to provide a cumulative resistance to load as the grooves close. In another modification a pair of upper members of channel section may each enclose the upwardly directed flange of a single angle iron, to which it is bonded by rubber, Fig. 7, not shown, in another modification (Fig. 8, not shown), the upper and lower members both consist of channel irons. In Fig. 9 both members are of circular section. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 468,165.
