526,066. Insecticides. DOW CHEMICAL CO. March 7, 1939, No. 7445. Convention date, March 28, 1938. [Class 81 (i)] Insecticidal compositions in which dinitrophenols are used as the active component contain in addition a diluent and such quantity of an acid reacting agent that when the composition is diluted with water to a concentration suitable for treating plants, the pH value is below 5 but not much below 3. The compositions may be in the form of water dispersions, oil emulsions or dusting powders. A number of dinitro phenols are specified, in particular 2.4-dinitro-6-cvclohexyl phenol. Suitable acid agents are dilute acids, e.g., acetic, oxalic, hydrochloric, nitric or sulphuric and acid reacting salts, e.g., aluminium sulphate, sodium bisulphate, ammonium sulphate, ammonium nitrate, copper sulphate. As diluents and dispersing agents there are mentioned sulphite waste liquor, lubricating oil, bentonite, wallnut shell flour.
