Abstract

525,968. Wireless receiving systems. KOLSTER-BRANDES, Ltd., and SMYTH, C. N. March 3, 1939, No. 7086. [Class 40 (v)] The local oscillator section of a triode-hexode or heptode valve of. a superheterodyne receiver for ordinary broadcast programmes is used also for television reception, switches being provided to change over the oscillatory circuits to provide the different heterodyning frequencies for the two purposes. With the switches S1 ... S5 in the positions shown, the circuit is arranged for ordinary broadcast reception and comprises a frequency-changing triode-hexode V1 feeding an intermediate-frequency amplifier V2 and detector V3 through tuned circuits IF1, IF2. For television reception, the ganged switches S1 ... S5 are changed over, substituting the localoscillator tuned circuit OSC2 for circuit OSC1 and feeding the higher-frequency local oscillations over condenser C1 to the television frequencychanger V4. The vision and the accompanying sound intermediate frequencies are separated in circuits IF4, IF5, the sound being fed to amplifier V2 and over a substituted tuned circuit IF3 to the detector V3. Automatic volume control potentials are obtained from diode D2 for the broadcast reception but not for the television since there is no feed to D2 in the latter case.
