525,842. Stays for hinged articles. AUSTER, Ltd., GARTY, S. A., and SMALL, W. W. March 2, 1939, No. 6771. [Class 65 (i)] A stay for a windscreen 1 comprises a bar 3 pivoted to the frame and to a bar 4 on the windscreen by means of a one-way clutch device sliding on 4, and adapted to permit 1 to open freely, but to prevent its return until the clutch is released by hand. The clutch may consist of a worm metallic sleeve extended by a spring 8 to grip the bar 4 and contracted by a manual device 10, 10a to release its grip on 4. In another form, it consists of a number of balls forced by a spring into a conical space between the round bar 4 and a collar surrounding it so that the balls grip the bar. A manual device releases their grip.
