Abstract
525,611. Adjusting tuning impedances. COLE, Ltd., E. K., and KEMP,R. Feb. 17, 1939, No. 5261. [Class 37] [Also in Group XL] In a button-tuned receiver of the type in which the press-buttons move an element of a variable impedance, each button is normally locked against rotations, but when depressed can be rotated to effect continuous tuning of the receiver. Three formers 8, 9, 10 carry the various tuning coils, and spindles 12 carry adjustable cores inside the formers. The spindles 12 are held pressed against a rocker bar 6 by springs at the other ends of the former. Press-buttons 3, normally held in their retracted positions by springs, are mounted on the front of the frame, and a latch bar 14 is provided to hold one button depressed at a time. The actuating rod.5, which is of adjustable length, engages the rocker bar 6 when a button is depressed and so positions the spindles 12 together with the coil cores. Pins C fixed to the actuating rods 5 move in slots in a bracket 4. and when a button is depressed the associated pin co-operates with a plate 16 having cam-slots 17. Sliding motion of the plate 16 causes rotation of the shaft 21 which operates the wave-change switches. This switch can set itself in one of three positions, depending upon the shape of the cam-slot associated with the depressed button. The pivot 7 of the rocker bar 6 is connected by linkwork 22, 24, 25 with a pointer 26, which indicates on a scale 28 the position of the ganged cores and the tuning of the receiver. Thus when a button is depressed, a definite position of the tuning coil cores is effected, the wavechange switch is altered if necessary, and an indication of the tuning is given. Also rotation of the depressed button 3 causes the screw 23 to be advanced or withdrawn, so that continuous tuning of the receiver is possible. When not depressed, rotation of the button is prevented by the binding action of a spring the ends of which move in a narrow portion of the slots in plate 4. When the button is depressed, the spring ends move to a wider portion of the slot.
