Abstract
525,053. Welding. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 13, 1939, No. 4685. Convention date, Feb. 12, 1938. [Class 83 (iv)] In a point or seam welding-machine the upper and/or lower electrode arm carries a.revolvable head provided with several electrodes detachably arranged on intermediate pieces movably mounted in the head. In Fig. 1, sector shaped electrodes 5 are mounted on members 6 pivoted on the head and supplied with current by cables 12. The electrode in use is coupled to a crank gear 10 by a rod 9. In Fig. 4, the point electrodes 18 are screwed into members 19 connected to a toggle 20. The electrode in use is operated by a striking rod 24 and is returned by a spring 27. The head may be automatically rotated after a predetermined number of welds to bring a new electrode into use. The shaft carrying the head is restrained against movement by spring-pressed balls engaging circumferential and longitudinal grooves in the shaft.
