Abstract
524,782. Coin-freed apparatus. WITTENBORG, E. Feb. 7, 1939, No. 4043. [Class 27] Means for locking and releasing a power driven crank 42, to permit it to make one revolution for actuating a coin-freed apparatus after insertion of a coin or coins, comprises a pivoted stopping arm 43 having a hook 28 engaging a hook 29 on a lever 30 the upper end 35 of which coacts with a lever 37 normally held in the position shown, in which it locks the lever 30, stopping arm 43 and crank 42, by the engagement of a pin 38 on a coin-actuated lever 8 in a notch 40 in its end. The coin-actuated lever 8 may be tripped to release the mechanism by the passage of one coin only down the insertion chute 11, but in the construction shown the passage of two coins in succession is necessary. In Figs. 1 and 3, the coin lever 8 pivotally carries a lever 3 with two fingers 1 and 2. Normally the finger 1 projects into the chute 11, and the passage of the first coin, in striking that finger, rocks the lever 3 about its pivot to project the second finger 2 into the chute but without displacing the main lever 8. A snap-over spring 9 biasses the lever 3 towards its two end positions which are determined by stops 6 and 10 on the main lever 8. The second coin in passing down the chute 11 strikes the flnger 2 which owing to the lever 3 now engaging the end stop 6 on the main lever 8, depresses the main lever 8 against the action of a spring 14 to withdraw its pin 38 from the recess 40 in the lever 37 so freeing the levers 37 and 35 and the stopping arm 43. At the same time an edge 15 on the coin lever 3, during the downward movement of the main coin lever 8, rocks a lever 4 in the direction of the arrow 21 by striking a pin 16 thereon, the lower end of lever 4 rocking the stopping arm 43 in the direction of the arrow 41. This movement of the stopping arm 43 is just sufficient to allow the crank 42 to pass after which it is immediately returned to arrest the crank at the completion of one revolution by an arm (not shown) actuated by the crank. This return movement of the stopping arm also restores the rest of the mechanism to the initial position. The construction of Fig. 5 is similar to that of Figs. 1 and 3 except that the coin actuated fingers 1 and 2 are mounted independently, finger 1 normally projecting into the chute to be actuated by the first coin, and through connecting levers 60 and 55 projecting the second finger 2 into the chute. Finger 2, when tripped by the second coin rocks a bell-crank 8 carrying the pin 38 serving to unlock the stopping arm 43 as in Figs. 1 and 3. The lever 4 (see Fig. 3) is weighted, has a pin 67 (Fig. 5) coacting with an abutment 62 on lever 60 and follows the movement of that lever to displace the stopping arm 43 to release the crank 42. The construction shown in Fig. 4 is for operation by a single coin. The rocking arm 3 in this case is fitted with a single finger 1 and has a downwardly directed arm 46 carrying a pin 49 working in a slot 47 in the frame plate 18. The manner of operation is otherwise the same as described in connection with Figs. 1 and 3.
