Abstract

524,741. Coated fabrics. TRIGGS, W. W. (Stein Hall Manufacturing Co.). Feb. 6, 1939, No. 3820. [Class 140] [Also in Group V] Wall papers, posters &c. are provided with a dried coating of adhesive which requires only moistening before application. The adhesive consists of a mixture of amylaceous compounds, at least one of which takes up a relatively small amount of water and at least one of which takes up a relatively large amount of water, together with an agent which increases the solubility of amylaceous substances. High grade tapioca, and corn and potato starches are examples of the first class, and chlorinated, dextrinated, modified and degraded starches of the second class. Solubility increasing agents are water-soluble ureas and thio-ureas, alkali metal acetates, resorcinol, chloral hydrate, sodium salicylate, water-soluble thiocyanates and nitrates (including guanidine nitrate) and calcium, zinc and magnesium chlorides. Fillers, bleaching agents. solid organic acids, and sulphonated castor oil may also be added.
