Abstract

524,646. Firegrates. MARTIN, J. Feb. 2, 1939, No. 3545. Convention date, Feb. 3, 1938. [Class 51 (i)] In a firegrate comprising fixed bars 1 and movable bars 2 supported on carriers 3, 4, the carriers 4 for the movable bars are secured to actuating beams 7 which have offset straight portions adapted to pass at right angles through partitions 8 forming extensions of the carriers 3 and subdividing the ashpit into compartments to each of which air is supplied through controlled openings 6. The openings in the partitions through which pass the actuating beams 7 are sealed by frames 9. The beams are supported by rollers 10 and are actuated by links and levers from an engine 14 with a piston of adjustable stroke. The beams 7 may be pivoted to links and may have arcuate portions which pass through the partitions 8.
