Abstract

524,489. Weighing - apparatus. HOBART MANUFACTURING CO. April 27, 1939, No. 12634. Convention date, July 8, 1938. [Class 143] In a weighing scale wherein the platter supports extend through a casing enclosing the frame structure, the space between the case opening and the platter support is substantially closed to dust vermin &c. by an adjustable bridging member. As shown in Fig. 2, the platter 40 is supported on an inverted Y-shaped yoke 60 passing between two sections of a computing drum and bearing upon a loop-like lever 62 the fulcrum end 63 of which passes round one frame end member 14' whilst the other end 75 is located at the inner side of the other frame end member 14<SP>2</SP>. The bearings 107, 106 of the computing drum are carried by the members 14<SP>1</SP>, 14<SP>2</SP>. A check link 65 maintains the vertical position of the yoke 60. The end 75 of the lever 62 carries an adjustable nose iron 82, Fig. 5, supported on a bearing block 84 at the centre of an equalizing lever 87. The ends of the equalizing lever are suspended from the weighing springs 93 by means of hooks 90 which engage calibrator bars 92. The lower ends of the springs pass through holes in the calibrator bars so that the effective lengths of the springs may be adjusted. Clips 94 of U-shape secure the calibrator bars to the springs. The computing drum is actuated by a rack and pinion 104, 105, Fig. 5, connected to the bearing block 84 by a shock spring 100, a bimetallic strip 98, a pin 96 and arms 97. The pin 96 extends through an enlarged opening 103 in a U-shaped arm 102 carrying the rack, and prevents excessive movement due to shock. At the customer's side of the machine, an elongated slot through which the weight indications on the computing drum are viewed, is largely covered by a translucent illuminated panel in front of which a frame bearing advertising matter may be slid. Casings.-The casing 16 is secured to the frame structure 15 by dust-excluding attachments 20 and is sealed at its lower edge by a flexible strip 18 carried by a base 10. The casing has a central opening 17 through which the platter support 34 passes. A flanged ring 31 secured to the frame structure 15 closely encircles a circular rib 34a in the no-load position in order to exclude dust. Felt packing 36 seals the space between the casing 16 and the ring 31. In a modification, the flanged ring 31 is resiliently secured to the frame structure 15 and has a flanged portion overlying the rib 34a. A cylindrical level 26 fastened to the frame structure 15 passes through a dust-excluding grommet on the casing. Scale-pans and the like.-The platter 40 has an annular flange secured thereto and fitting into a recess 45 in the platter support 34. The platter is clamped in position by conical nuts 51 moved into engagement with holes in the flange 44 by turning screws 49 rotatably secured in lugs 48. Temperature variations, compensating for.- A bimetallic strip 98, Fig. 5, supporting the drum rack 104 compensate for changes of temperature.
