Abstract
523,570. Electric clocks. NARDIN, J. Jan. 5, 1939, No. 448. [Class 139] Winding - apparatus, electric.-In electromagnetic means for rewinding a mainspring 9, the latter is connected between two members 5 and 8 mounted independently on a common axis, the first member 5 being 'actuated by the electromagnet 2 to wind up the spring 9 and the second member 8 being actuated, by the spring unwinding, to drive the clock train, and the first being associated with locking means 11, 13, 16 (or 11, 13, 17) which' arrest it after a predetermined amount of winding and which are actuated by a cam 15 rigid with the second member 8. The electromagnet 2 is energized when its armature 3 is pulled by spring 3a down on to contact 3b, whereupon armature pawl 4 is raised over another tooth and the restressed spring then drives the ratchet 5 again.' Pivoted at 12 to ratchet 5 is a lever 11 which carries a lug 13 coacting with fixed stops 16 and 17 and which is pressed by a spring 14 against the cam 15. The member 8 is a gear wheel driving wheel 10 to the train. Fig. 3 shows the mainspring 9 wound up. As the spring drives the clock through wheels 8 and 10, the cam 15 rotates clockwise, Fig. 3, until the drop in it allows lever 11 to move sufficiently counter clockwise for lug 13 to clear the stop 16. The stressed blade 3a drives pawl 4 and wheel 5 due to the vibrator action of parts 3, 3a, 3b, until lug 13 meets stop 17. During this action, cam.15 is substantially motionless and since lever 11 rolls round the cam, the lever is swung out again by the high part of the cam so that stop 17 is in the path of lug 13. The stressed mainspring again drives until cam 15 once more releases the lug 13. In modifications (1) the lever 11 is rocked by its spring against a stop pin on the ratchet wheel 5 and is removed therefrom periodically by a cam which presses against the lever for only a short time. Fig. 4 (not shown). (2) the lever rocks about a fixed pivot and has a forked end of which each limb carries a stopping lug. the fork being rocked by the cam, Fig. 5 (not shown), (3) the lever 11 is replaced by a sliding member which is guided for longitudinal sliding on the ratchet wheel and is actuated by an eccentric rigid with the wheel 8.
