523,450. Malting foam. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. Dec. 29, 1938, No. 37752. Convention date, Dec. 29, 1937. [Class 47 (ii)] [Also in Groups V and IV] A mix for the manufacture of cellular plasters and cements contains, in addition to a " blowing " agent or a preformed foam, a proportion of a urea-aldehyde condensation product. The proportion of urea-aldehyde condensation product is preferably from 1 to 10 per cent., although it may be up to 40 per cent. or more of the dry plaster used in the mix. The condensation product may be used as an aqueous solution of the resin, or the primary condensation product, dimethylol urea, may be added in solution or dry. Condensation products of an aldehyde with urea derivatives such as thiourea, biuret, guanidine, urethane, or a monoalkyl or monoacyl urea or thiourea may be used. Modifying agents such as glycerine or cellulose pulp may be added to the mix. The product may be cast or moulded in situ, or used as preformed blocks, or as wallboard with facings of paper, pulpboard, cardboard or the like. The plaster or cement may be calcium sulphate, hemi-hydrate, or anhydrite, or lime, or Portland cement. The blowing agent may be hydrogen peroxide, if desired with a catalyst such as manganous chloride and an alkali.
