522,950. Conveyer systems. WHARTON, W. Dec. 20, 1938, No. 37028. [Class 78 (i)] A portable conveyer comprises a number of unit lengths each mounted on a carrying vehicle and having its free end guided and supported on the adjacent unit. Fig. 1 shows such a series of endless-belt units 5 ; the initial one receiving from a hopper 4 and the final one delivering to a carrying-off belt 6. Figs. 2 and 3 show the inter-connection between a pair of units, and the driving and supporting means for each. In Fig. 3 one motor 49 drives the endless tracks forming the travelling wheels of the vehicle, while a second one 23 drives the endless belt 13 through chain gear 25, bevel gears 28 and 33 and spur gear 37. By operating the handle 20, the worm gear 19 is operated to raise or lower the screw 15 to adjust the height of the end of the conveyer. The latter is supported by girders 39, the outer ends of which are supported on brackets 44 forming part of a turntable 45 mounted on a carriage furnished with rollers 47 running on the girders 39x of the adjacent unit. As modifications, there may be separate motors for the endless tracks on opposite sides of the vehicle, the handle 20 may be replaced by a motor drive, and the unit may be mounted on a petrol vehicle and the belt driven from the vehicle engine.
