[Class 98 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A device for producing current impulses of definite length but of adjustable frequency, for controlling a camera for aerial or other photography comprises a movable body which operates contacts during movement over a definite section of its path, during which its speed is constant, the length of the whole path being variable in order to vary the time intervals between the impulses. In the apparatus shown, a motor 4 with a centrifugal speed-regulating brake 5 rotates, through gears 8, 9 and a helical transmission, a screw 11, and block 13 slidable but not rotatable on a rod 14 parallel to the screw 11, carries a finger 16 which engages the screw, the block being thus moved along the rod against a spring 15 until a lug 24 carried by it engages an inclined surface on a member 23. This causes the block and rod 14 to turn so that the finger 16 is disengaged from the thread 11, the angular movement being completed by a snap-over spring 18 secured to an arm 17 on the rod 14 and to a bell-crank lever 19. As soon as the finger 16 is disengaged the spring 15 drives the block 13 to the end of the rod, where it strikes an abutment 20 on the lever 19 which turns the lever so that the snap-over spring 18 secured to it reverses its action and rotates the rod 14 back to the first position, causing the finger 16 on the block 13 to re-engage the thread 11. In so turning, the block 13 engages the lower end of a lever 13, as shown in Fig. 3, and moves it so that a contact blade 30 carried by it makes circuit with a fixed contact blade 28. This contact is maintained until the blade 13 is moved by the screw 11 to a point where it clears the lever 31, thus producing an impulse of fixed duration. The period between the impulses is varied by adjusting the member 23 parallel to the rod 14, thus varying the length of travel of the block 13.
