Abstract
522,076. Moulding pipes &c. DEUTSCHE EISENWERKE AKT.-GES. Feb. 11, 1939, No. 4524. Convention date, Feb. 21, 1938. [Class 87 (ii)] A mould for the manufacture of pipes or like hollow bodies from cement or other plastic material comprises an imperforate support 1 coated or lined with a layer 3 of water-absorbent material. The cement 4 may, as shown, be moulded centrifugally within a tubular mould, or it may be moulded as in pasteboard machines by wrapping about a revolving mandrel. The water-absorbent material may be chalk, gypsum, potassium carbonate or baked fragments of porcelain or clay. A thin layer of less absorbent material, such as wood ashes, may be applied between the absorbent layer and the cement to prevent undue absorption and facilitate removal of the pipe. The mould and absorbent layer are dried after use.
