Abstract
521,490. Wireless receiving circuits. THORNTON, A. A., (Philco Radio & Television Corporation). Aug. 26, 1938, No. 25114. [Class 40 (v)] The effect of static and like interference in a wireless receiver is limited by applying the demodulated output from a detector to a diode which is maintained conducting only for signal amplitudes below a predetermined value. A portion of the' modulated carrier from E is detected in the valve V1, the demodulated A.F. output across the load 9 being taken off through the diode 3. Diode 3 receives a positive bias from the output of detector V2, which is fed with the full voltage of source E, the lowfrequency output being removed by filter 12, 13. Thus when the degree of modulation rises above a value determined by the relative signal amplitude fed to V1 and V2, or when a noise impulse is received, the cathode of VI moves positively to an extent sufficient to render the diode 3 non-conducting, and the modulation frequency output is cut off. A variable bias on V1 obtained from a potentiometer 8 is employed to make the cathode potentials of V1 and V2 equal in the no-signal condition. The infinite impedance detectors V1, V2, may be replaced by diodes, Fig. 2 (not shown).
