Abstract

521,368. Disinfecting - apparatus for waterwaste - preventers and closets. RAILTON, C. Nov. 16, 1938, Nos. 33372/38 and 1435139. [Class 26] [Also in Group XVIII] A measured quantity of disinfectant, deodorant, or scouring. or like fluid is discharged from an elevated reservoir into the pedestal bowl of a water closet after each flushing operation by buckets carried by an endless chain. In the apparatus shown the operaion of a push-button, lever, chain &c. to initiate a flushing operation closes aswitch 35 to complete the circuit to a coil 20 and thereby causes a core 21 in the coil 20 to move a switch lever 22 downwards against the resistance of a spring 26 to close the circuit to an electric motor 5 at contacts 25. A spring- operated member 28 engages a stop-pin 23 on the lever 22 and holds the lever in the depressed position when the coil circuit is broken at contacts 24 by the movement of the lever. The, motor 5 then revolves through worm-gearing 14, 15 a shaft 11 connected by a universal coupling 17 to the shaft 16 of an elevator comprising two endless-chains 7 passing over sprockets 8, 9 and carrying pivoted buckets 10 passing through a dosing-fluid reservoir 3. When the flushing operation is completed a curved guide-plate 46 tilts a bucket 10 to deliver a charge of the fluid to a hopper 12 connected by apipe 13 to the pedestal bowl and a pin 34 on the shaft 11 operates the member 28 to release the stop-pin 23. At the end of one revolution of the shaft 11 the lever 22 is allowed to rise by the stop-pin 23 springing into a notch formed by a shoulder 40 on an escapement wheel 19 and the motor circuit is broken. The motor 5 may also operate a fan 36 discharging a current of air past a deodorant arranged in an outlet 38. On a modified apparatus the coil 20 operates a lever carrying mercury switches controlling the circuits to the coil and motor. According to one Provisional Specification the apparatus may be used for supplying liquid to urinals, drains, bathrooms and hospital sluice rooms on the pressure of a separate push-button or switch.
