Abstract
521,072. Road vehicles. SOC D'ETUDES ET DE REALISATIONS MECANIQUES, S.E.R.E.M. Nov. 17, 1938, No. 33498. Convention date, Nov. 17, 1937. [Classes 103 (v) and 108 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXXI and XXXIV] The frame 1 and body of an automobile trailer are allowed to sink on to the floor of a transporting railway truck on operation of a handwheel 12 which by worm gearing 11 rotates at each side of the trailer a sprocket 4 carrying a chain 6 attached to one end of the longitudinal laminated suspension spring 7, which spring, with the wheel 10a, relatively rises, turning about an axis 9 by means of an arm 8 forming a continuation of the spring 7. The trailer body may thus be made of maximum height. Tenons 44 on the trailer body engage sockets in the floor of the truck. To facilitate alignment of the trailer in backing it on to the truck, the wheels 10a may, on withdrawal of a catch 24, be set at a steering angle by turning a wheel 20 or bevel gear 22 to advance a nut 17 connected to'the wheel axles by a link 16, bar 14 and arms 13. The draw-bar 39 is secured in a socket 29 on the trailer, by penetration of the upper end of the shaft 35 of a castor-wheel 36 provided for temporary use. when the wheel is raised either by turning a nut 36a by means of a lever 37, or by bevel gear. A locking catch 42 is further provided for the draw-bar. The draw-bar 39 and socket 29 carry toothed quadrants 30a, 30 to which rods 31a, 31 are attached, for operating the trailer brakes from the tractor.
