[Class 55 (ii)] To detect leakage of fuel gases such as water gas, blast furnace gas, producer gas, and coal gas, oenanthal vapour is added, either by spraying direct, or in solution into the fuel gas, or by bubbling some of the gas through the oenanthal, or by a wick which hangs in the path of the gas. The gas may be impregnated with oenanthal at regular intervals so that waves of gas highly concentrated with oenanthal vapour may travel along the mains.
