Abstract

519,731. Synthetic rubber. I.G, FARBENINDUSTRIE AKT.-GES.Sept. 28, 1938, No. 28223. Conversion date, Sept. 30, 1937. [Class 2(iii)] Synthetic rubber is prepared by polymerizing a butadiene-1-3 hydrocarbon together with a substance of the formula in which X is halogen and R is an alkyl group. The polymerization may be effected in aqueous emulsion, and another polymerizable substance such as styrene or an acrylic acid derivative may be added. In examples (1) butadiene-1-3 or isoprene and the chlorpentadienyl methyl ether of the above structure are emulsified with sodium oleate solution and polymerized at 30‹C. with the addition of ammonium persulphate ; (2) a similar product is obtained by using the corresponding n-butyl ether. Specification 387,381 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 contains another example in which 2-chlorobutadiene, chlorpentadienyl butyl ether and phenoxy-propene. oxide are polymerixed at 30‹C. in aqueous sodium oleate emulsion. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
