Abstract
519,626. Electromagnetic disc brakes. ROVER CO., Ltd., and IVERSEN, P. A. SCOTT-. Aug. 25, 1938, No. 24971. [Class 103 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] A rotatable element 13 splined to a part 15 of a planet carrier in a change-speed gear carries lightly spring- pressed pawls 16 which are held out of engagement'with the teeth 17 of a stationary electromagnet 10 by centrifugal force until the magnet is energized to brake the element 13. As the element slows down the pawls engage the teeth and prevent reversal of rotation of the element. In a modification the ratchet type of free wheel is replaced by one employing rollers and a cam. According to the Provisional Specification the rotatable element makes a screwed connection with.its support, so that it moves axially into contact with the electromagnet when braked.
