519,468. Derivatives of steroids. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP ORGANON. Oct. 17, 1938, No. 30049. Convention date, Oct. 16, 1937. [Class 2 (iii)] An oximino carboxylic acid derived from an alpha-#-unsaturated cyclopentanopolyhydrophenanthrene ketone is ozonized and the resulting keto-carboxylic acid treated with hydroxylamine to give a steroid derivative with a carbon atom of the cyclopentano-polyhydrophenanthrene nucleus replaced by a nitrogen atom. This cholestenone is oxidized and the acid so formed converted to the oxime. The oxime is dissolved in ethanol and metallic sodium added. On acidification with acetic acid and retraction with ether, a lactam is formed. This lactam is reduced by sodium and the product may be acetylated or propionylated. The same process may be used to prepare a lactam from 7-keto-cholesterol.
