519,104. Bitumen boilers; liquid fuel burners. DEUTSCHE EISENWERKE AKT.-GES. Nov. 23, 1938, Nos. 34017 and 34018. Convention dates, Nov. 29, 1937, and Aug. 16, 1938. [Class 107] [Also in Group XI] Apparatus for liquefying pitch or other bituminous substance comprises an annular container 5 mounted in a vessel 1 charged with hot oil or other heating medium, the container 1 being carried in a casing 2 through which pass gases from burners 4 heating the oil &c. The container 5, when charged, is closed by a lid 6 and the liquefied pitch descends through sieves 9, pipes 7 and sieves 8 to an annular reservoir 10 having pipes 16 passing to a central chamber from which the liquid is pumped through a pipe 12, 13 by a pump 21. The delivery pipe 13 has a jacket 14 extending to the point at which the liquefied pitch is used, the heating medium used in the container 1 passing through the jacket 14 and returning by way of the pipe 15 to the container 1 in a closed circuit by thermal circulation. The liquefied pitch is used in nozzles as fuel, compressed air for the vaporization and combustion being preheated either by passing through a coil 17 in the casing 2, or through a helical coil 18, or spiral coil 19 immersed in the heating medium in the container 1.
