[Class 8 (i)] [Also in Groups XIII and XXXVII] In compression refrigerating apparatus a control means responsive to a predetermined high difference in pressure between the high and low pressure sides renders the compressor motor incapable of being started and permits it to operate, once it is started, independently of the pressure difference, thus dispensing with the use of an unloader. As shown applied to a system for cooling air forced over the evaporator 10 by a fan 24, bellows 27, 28 connected by pipes 29, 31 to the high and low pressure sides 16, 15 respectively operate bell-crank levers 48, 42. A movable contact 54 carried by a support 56 connected to the bell-crank 48 is adapted to engage a movable contact 55 carried by a spring 57 on a lever 58 one end 59 of which is held in engagement with the bell-crank 42 by a spring 61. The contacts 54, 55 are separated when the pressure differential between the high and low pressure sides exceeds a predetermined value and break a low voltage circuit between lines' L1, L2 which includes a relay 64 and a normally closed snap switch 34 operated by the bellows 27, 28 through the bell-cranks 48, 42 lost-motion connections 46, 43, a pivoted arm 32 and a spring 33. In operation, with the switch 34 and contacts 54, 55 closed as shown a master switch 72 is closed by a thermostatic control when the temperature of the air being treated has increased to a predetermined value and energizes the relay 64 to close the switch 66 of the compressor motor 13 and a switch 67 shortcircuiting the contacts 54, 55. During the running period the contacts 54, 55 separate due to the rising pressure difference and the switch 34 will be opened to stop the compressor in response to abnormally high condenser pressure and abnormally low evaporating pressure. When the temperature of the air reaches a predetermined low value the switch 72 is opened, and during the inactive period the contacts 54, 55 remain separated preventing starting of the compressor, until the pressure difference has been lowered to the predetermined value. The system may thus be operated without an unloading device and the capacity of the motor need not be above that necessary for the running operation.
