Abstract

517,193. Antihalation layers for photographic multilayer material. I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE AKT.-GES. July 22, 1938, No. 21800. Convention date, July 28, 1937. [Class 98 (ii ] In material having several differently coloursensitized layers, an antihalation dyestuff is arranged behind the light-sensitive layer on which the incident light last falls and is coloured with a dyestuff whose colour is complementary to the colour-sensitivity of the last light-sensitive layer. If the layers are all on the side of the support, the antihalation layer may be between the lowest light-sensitive layer and the support or on the rear face of the film. The support itself may be coloured. If the light-sensitized layer is non-colour sensitive, the antihalation layer is yellow; if orthochromatic the layer is red ; and if panchromatic or red - sensitized the layer is green. The binding agent for the antihalation layer may be gelatine, cellulose derivatives, or artificial or natural resins. Dyestuffs without binding agents may be applied to the support with subsequent application of a thin layer of wax. Coloured resins with or without additional dyestuffs may be employed. The material may contain colour formers for colour development or may contain dyestuffs or dyestuff formers for the silver dyestuff bleaching out or the silver antidiazotate process, or may contain additions for the production of colour. The antihalation dyestuffs may be removed or destroyed by reducing or oxidizing baths. Antihalation dyestuffs referred to are light-green SF, acid magenta, fuchsonetricarboxylic acid, alkali blue, the condensation product of quinaldine dimethyl sulphate with p-methoxybenzaldehyde, and the condensation product of quinaldine dimethylsulphate and diphenyldialdehyde. The antilhalation layer may consist of polyglycuronic acid and may be coated with a colourless lacquer soluble in the developer. Specifications 369,721 and 399,387 are referred to.
