Abstract

516,910. Section insulators. BRITISH INSULATED CABLES, Ltd., LONDON PASSENGER TRANSPORT BOARD, and NISBETT, G. H. July 29, 1938, No. 22634. [Class 36] In a trolley-wire section insulator comprising two metal end members to which the trolleywire sections are anchored and which are connected together by insulating bridging means arranged above an insulating runner serving to transfer the current-collector across the insulator, the runner is made of toughened glass. Fig. 1 shows a section insulator comprising end members 1 bridged by a toughened glass runner 10 and connected by insulated tension and compression members 2, 3 respectively, the insulator being of the form described in Specification 495,224. The runner 10 is secured in position by a clip 18 engaging the tension member 2 and by auxiliary end members 13 bolted to the end members 1 and provided with tongues 16 which enter grooves in the ends of the runner. Fig. 3 shows a modified construction wherein a runner 11 is secured at its ends by providing each end thereof with a tenon 22 which enters a recess in an adjacent auxiliary end member 24. In other constructions the runner may be secured solely by clips, or by bolting either to the end members or to renewable metal pieces.
