Abstract

1341777 Electric railways MERLIN GERIN 24 Nov 1971 [30 Nov 1970 22 Jan 1971 11 May 1971] 54635/71 Heading B7L A linearly extending electrical distribution assembly for electric railways comprises three parallel conductor rails 15, 16, 17 arranged one at each apice of an equilateral triangle, each rail having a front contact face of dihedral section adapted for sliding contact with a movable current collecting system (not shown) the assembly further comprising a plurality of insulating support members as 18, 19 for the rails, each support member having a bearing portion in clamping relation with recesses in the side faces of the associated rail to permit longitudinal movement of the rails relative to the support members allowing for thermal expansion, the support members surrounding the rails incompletely, leaving one side of the equilateral triangle free to provide a passageway for the current collecting system. Covering plates as 24, 26 are provided to protect the assembly. Arrangements for connecting adjacent sections of conductor rail together to provide a continuous contact surface and to allow for thermal expansion are described these utilizing connector bars having portions sliding within complementary shaped portions of the rail section end and each rail may be formed as a single extruded section as shown or from two longitudinally aligned separate parts clamped together. The rails are preferably of aluminium with the contact face being formed by a covering sheet of stainless steel.
