Abstract

516,764. Hydraulic motors. WAHLMARK, G. A. May 4, 1938, No. 28273/39. Convention date, Feb. 7, 1938. Divided out of 516,721 under which a Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 18. 1938. [Class 69 (ii)] A hydraulic motor is constructed with a number of pistons reciprocable in cylinders formed in a block 20' to actuate a shaft 12 by acting on a swashplate 13 one set of pistons acting to drive the shaft at slow speed and another set at high speed, and the flow of liquid is controlled by a tubular valve 74 surrounding the shaft 12. Between the liquid inlet 14 and outlet 15 is arranged a valve 16 of the kind described in Specification 516,721 which connects the cylinders 26 alternately to the inlet and outlet. For slow speeds the valve 74 is set so as to cause the liquid to enter the left-hand end of each of the cylinders 26 and to act on a piston 31 which in turn moves a piston rod 32 to the right and causes a conical end 32<1> of the rod to act on the swashplate. For high speeds the valve 74 is set so that the liquid enters each chamber 26 via ports 77, 73 and acts on the reverse side of the piston 31 and maintains it in a stationary position. The piston rod 32 then acts as a piston and owing to its smaller area it is moved at a greater speed assuming a constant inflow' The piston 32 is guided by a bushing 33, which is formed with a cut-away part 33a forming a guide for the hollow cylinder 31 when this is operative. In a modification, Fig. 6, the swashplate 235 is pivoted about a pivot 285 arranged below the axis of the shaft 212, and the speed of the motor may be varied by angular movement of the plate 235. This is preferably effected by means of an axially movable wedge or cam 286' which acts on a roller 288 mounted in the plate. The cam 286' is moved by means of a screw 290 engaging a thread in a ball 291 supported in a socket 292 on a lever 293 having a ball-and-socket connection with a sleeve 294 which slides on the shaft 212 and operates the cam 286<1>.
