Abstract
516,579. Pliers &c. BILLS, F. E. June 28, 1938, No. 19194. [Class 61 (ii)] [Also in Group XIV] Shears &c. for cutting metal or other sheet material comprises two side blades a between which is pivoted at c one of a number of interchangeable centre blades b variously formed at the cutting end with cutting edges at each side as shown in Fig. 2 co-operating with the two cutting edges of the side blade a to cut out a narrower strip from the sheet material or with a single bevel cutting edge g along its centre as shown in Fig. 6 so that the sheet material is merely severed and the edges curled or with a cutting edge h, Fig. 8, at one edge only and reduced in thickness at the other edge so as to sheer against one side blade only and curl up the material at the other side of the cut. The side blades are scooped or hollowed out at a<1> to facilitate cutting scrolls or circles and are curved edgewise for cutting in the hollows and rounds of currugated material; the centre blade terminates in a point for piercing the material and is backed off on the under edge at e to prevent it binding when making a round cut. The centre blade has serrations at f to grip the material and lessen the forward pressure during cutting.
