Abstract
516,385. Wireless receiving apparatus. KOLSTER-BRANDES, Ltd., and BEATTY, W. A. June 24, 1938, No. 18796. [Class 40 (v)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A push-button wireless receiver is arranged so that the push-buttons, in addition to altering the wavelength and waveband if necessary, simultaneously alter another feature of the set such as tone, selectivity, obscuring a tuning dial, switching from manual to automatic tuning, or projecting a picture indicative of the station tuned on to a screen. The wave-change switch may be operated by a solenoid device as shown in Fig. 2, the solenoid 10 being energized by a contact controlled by a push-button to step ratchet wheel 17 until a required waveband is selected. The stepping continues until the marked wiper 37, 40 rests on its appropriate insulating segment on disc 29. At the termination of each step of the ratchet, the brush carrier is swung by solenoid 10 in the opposite direction to the movement of the disc 29, and the brushes are arranged to make contact only at the termination of this swing so that the solenoid circuit is not broken during a step. Alternatively the movement of the tuning condensers such as 68, Fig. 4, may be effected by push button 52 'through cam mechanism 48, 56 the condensers being moved until the cam engages pins 58, 59 as indicated in Fig. 6 whilst a similar cam mechanism 74, 79 operated by the same push-button may operate a wave-change switch attached to spindle 85. Other cams may be similarly simultaneously operated to,perform other tuning functions. A mechanism for obscuring the tuning dial when automatic tuning is used is shown in Fig. 7. When automatic tuning is being used a circuit is completed for solenoid 94 so that catch 93 is released and shutter 88 falls to obscure the tuning screen, whilst lever 95 operates togglesswitch 96 to switch over the circuits from solenoid 94 to solenoid 92. When manual operation is required, operation, of a wavechange button or manual tuning-button energises solenoid 92 so that the shutter 88 is raised and is held in its upper position by catch 93, the shutter 88 operating switch 96 to open the circuit of solenoid 92 and to prepare that of solenoid 94. Specifications 362,001, 480,839, 486,882, 491,532, 497,660, [Group XXXVII], 518,635, and 521,209 are referred to.
