No. 25487/39 Divided out of 513,785 [Class 27] Coin action, mechanical connection and multiple coin.-In a coin-actuated mechanism in which the coins actuate a counting-device or a mechanism for delivering an article of predetermined value, such as a railway ticket, the coin during its passage through the mechanism effects the movement of a lever to an extent which is independent of small variations in the diameter of the coin, from a normal diameter, the lever effecting the actuation of the counting or ticket issuing apparatus. Coins 26, 27 conveyed along a shoot 22 rock a lever 23 connected through a buffer spring 40 to a lever 28 the movement of which is limited by stops 29, 30. As shown, a large diameter coin 26, e.g., a penny, rocks the lever 23 twice by engaging projections 24, 25 thereon, while a halfpenny' 27 engages the projection 25 only, and rocks the lever once. Any small variation in the sizes of the coins is taken up by the buffer spring and does not affect the stroke of the lever 28, which is connected by a link 32 to a ratchet lever 34 carrying a pawl 37 for driving a ratchet wheel 36. The wheel 36 is rotated through two teeth by a penny 26 and one tooth by a halfpenny 27. It is rigid with a camwheel 44 having' projections 45 on its periphery, which after the passage of a predetermined number of coins, e.g., three pennies or six halfpennies, actuate a lever arm 49 connected to a link 50 leading to a mechanically-operated ticket-issuing mechanism. Alternatively, or in addition, the lever 49 may actuate an electric contact device 52 controlling an electrically actuated indicating device or a ticket issuing machine. The mechanism described may be used in combination with the coin-separating and conveying mechanism described in Specification 513,785.
