[Class 131] In a dry shaver having a fixed blade 12 a toothed guard plate 11 and a rotary cutter 14 (which may be spring-loaded) carrying straight or helical cutting blades 13, the relation between the gap A, Fig. 1, and the gap C for safe shaving is determined by the formula A x C = N1, the maximum and minimum values of A being À03 inches and À01 inches and of N1, being À003 and À0015. The value of C relative to the rotor diameter D is determined by the formula C3 - = N2, where N2 has minimum and maximum <p> values À002 and À03. The distance B of the cutting edge of the fixed blade 12 from its outer surface lies between À002 inches and À004 inches, the width T of the teeth of the guard plate 11 lies between À01 inches and À02 inches, and the width of the gap G lies between À03 inches and À01 inches. Extra teeth 16 without cutting edges may be provided between the blades solely for driving the rotor. The leading faces of the blades 13 are ground away at 13a to form cutting edges.
