514,156. Condensers. BRITISH INSULATED CABLES, Ltd., BRISLEE, F. J., WELBOURN B., HIGHAM, H., and QUAYLE, J. C. March 24, 1938, No. 9064. Drawings to Specification. [Class 37] [Also in Group IV] A condenser has, as dielectric, layers of highly polymerized styrene having a molecular weight of 60,000 to 180,000. The styrene may be plasticised by the addition of a hydrocarbon, or mixture of hydrocarbons, free from all traces of reagents or by-products other than hydrocarbons, such as diamyl naphthalene, suitably treated; or a mixture of polymers of alpha-methyl styrene obtained by a mild polymerization in the presence of 80 per cent. sulphuric acid, or an organic sulphonic acid such as diisopropyl benzene sulphonic acid.
