Abstract
514,062. Polishing pads. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., BULLOCK, A. R., and KING, J. April 25, 1938, Nos. 12276 and 33737. [Class 19] A polishing roll for the bottoms of boots or shoes comprises a wooden hub 10 which is secured on a metal tube 12 and which has adhesively secured thereto, with the interposition of a single wrapping 16 of canvas, a layer 14 of comparatively-hard sponge rubber, to which is adhesively secured another layer 17 of comparatively-soft sponge rubber. Over the layer 17 is adhesively secured a layer 18 of thin leather, the joint of which is arranged spirally. The ends of a renewable fabric cover 20 are gripped against the sides by spikes 24 projecting from metal discs 22 pressed towards each other by a flange 28 and a nut 26 on the tube 12. The hub 10 may have a central groove in which the layer 14 is arranged, the layer 17 then overlying both the layer 14 and the hub flanges. The layers 14 and 17 may be interchanged, and the layer 18 may be of crepe rubber. In a convex heel-finishing roll, the convexity is produced by reducing the thickness of the layer 17 towards its edges. Specifications 332,525 and 322,526, [both in Class 70], are referred to.
