Abstract

513,934. Sweetening petroleum hydrocarbons. STEVENS, A. H. (Phillips Petroleum Co.). Sept. 27, 1938, No. 28118. [Class 91] Hydrocarbon oils, such as gasoline, which have been treated with solutions of copper salts to remove sulphur compounds, are stabilized and freed from small amounts of copper mercaptide contained therein by treating with a solid absorbent impregnated with a solution containing cupric and chloride ions. For example, the treated gasoline is filtered through charcoal, fuller's earth, silica gel, or alumina saturated with a concentrated solution containing copper sulphate and sodium chloride. U.S.A. Specification 1,964,219 is referred to.
