Abstract

513,667. Mounting vehicle bodies. COMMER CARS. Ltd., LIMON, W., and SMITH, A. J. April 7, 1938, No. 10701. [Class 108 (ii)] The forward parts of the body or superstructure of a road vehicle, comprising a driver's cab 7, a scuttle 8, a pair of front wings 9, and a radiator 10, are mounted on a common frame 1 which is secured to the chassis at four points 2'so disposed as to constitute the four corners of a quadrilateral, one diagonal of which is disposed substantially centrally longitudinally of the chassis and substantially at right-angles to the other diagonal. In a modification the frame 1 is formed of two triangular parts disposed with the bases parallel- and the apices centrally of the vehicle, the radiator, front wings and scuttle being mounted on one part and the driver's cab on the other.' As shown, the frame 1 is adapted to be secured by pin joints, ball-joints, resilient mountings &c. to four brackets or projections 3, 3, 5, 5 secured to the longitudinal and transverse members 6, 4 of the chassis. The Provisional Specification describes also a construction in which the whole of the body or superstructure is mounted on a sub-frame.
