[Class 108 (i)] [Also in Groups XXV and XXXI] In a mechanically-propelled animal carrying vehicle, having a ramp 1 providing access to the interior of the body 2 and means for fastening the ramp in its closed position, a device is provided adapted to preclude normal propulsion of the vehicle or alternatively or additionally to actuate a warning signal within the sight or hearing of the driver until or unless the fastening means has been actuated to secure the ramp in its closed position. As shown, horizontal bolts 3, 4 on the ramp 1 are adapted to engage sockets or crutches 5, 6 on the body and are controlled by vertical arms 7, 8 pivoted on the ramp. The free end of each bolt is adapted to co-operate with a movable contact 13, Fig. 3, carried by a support 15 in the form of a spring - pressed hinge and mounted adjacent a fixed contact 17 which is connected by lead 19, Fig. 2, with one end of the coil of an electromagnetic relay switch 20, the other end of which is connected with the armature 21, and through the lead 22 with the engine ignition switch. The armature 21 has contact surfaces 23, 24 for engaging either the contact 25, which is connected by a lead 26 with the ignition coil, or the contact 27 which is earthed through an electrical signal lamp 28. Hence when the ramp is closed with the bolts in locking position, the coil of tne relay 20 is de-energised and there is an uninterrupted connection between the engine ignition switch and ignition coil, while, when the bolts are withdrawn, the relay 20.is energised and the armature 21 raised so that the contact 24 engages contact 27 and interrupts the connection between the engine switch and ignition coil and the circuit is completed through the lamp 28.
