Abstract

513,291. Sanding wood &c. ADLER MANUFACTURING CO. April 8, 1938, No. 10855. Convention date, April 12, 1937. [Class 60] A sanding-tool for treating mouldings on wood &c. comprises an electric'motor driving a spindle 13 on which is mounted a hollow cylindrical head 14, closed at one end and provided with longitudinal slots 15 extending from the closed end through the open end. Mounted on the outside of the head 14, by means of screws 18, and between every other pair of slots, are radial brushes comprising blocks 17 and bristles 16, and mounted within the head is a sleeve 19 having therein longitudinal bores 20, one for each brush, a slot 21 also being provided for each bore. An abrasive sheet 22 passes through each slot 21 and its end is secured in the bore by a pin 23,.the sheets 22 then being wound around the sleeve and their outer ends brought out through the slots so as to be supported by the brushes; the sheets are slotted to conform with uneven work surfaces. The sleeve 19 and the pins 23 are secured in position by a cap 25 bored to receive the spindle 13, and having a bevelled flange 26 seating in a groove 27 in the end of the head 14, the cap being secured by a nut 28 and having recesses 30 to receive the heads of the pins 23. By loosening the nut 28 the cap may be turned to wind up or allow unwinding of the sheets 22; the sheets 22 may lie on either side of the brushes, according to the direction of rotation of the tool.
