The conveyer consists of a chain 46 having depending clips 49 for gripping the necks of the bottles, and rollers 48 travelling on a rail 37 carried by brackets 36 depending from the frame 35, the arrangement allowing the conveyer to be lifted bodily from the casing. The chain passes round idler sprockets 51 ... 54 and is driven by a sprocket 55 through the distance between two bottles by ratchet gear actuated from a vertical shaft 59 which is turned through one revolution at each actuation by an operating handle. The shaft 59 carries two arms 102, 103, the arm 102 being connected by a link 104 and bell-crank lever 106 to a shaft having a pawl-lever engaging a ratchet wheel attached to the sprocket 55. The drive of the sprocket takes place during the first half-revolution of the shaft 59, the arm 103, during the second half-revolution, engaging a lug 117 on a slidable rod 120 to actuate an elevator for lifting the positioned bottle through the delivery opening. The rod 120 is connected by a block-and-tackle arrangement, giving a four to one velocity ratio, to a chain 124, Fig. 17, which raises an elevator carriage 129 slidable on rods 132. The carriage engages a lower corner of the bottle 50 and tilts it to disengage its neck from the supporting claw 49, a lever 137 pivoted to the carriage being actuated during the lift to move the bottom of the bottle laterally until the bottle meets a guide 141. The elevator then pushes the bottle through a pivoted door 144, past a pair of hooked springy supporting fingers 193 and through a cleaning squeegee 45 until its neck projects through the delivery opening 43.
