[Class 40 (ii)] [Also in Group XX] In projection apparatus for kinematograph sound and picture films, the frame or casing carrying the motion head is provided with a hollow cylindrical journal which is pivotally adjustable in an annular bearing in the base of the apparatus and forms a housing for the sound drum containing the photo-electric cell. In the form shown the tube 3 is journalled in a bearing 4 forming part of the base 1 and may be rotated by a worm 5 operated by a knob 6. To this tube is attached the housing 8 which, together with the housing 8b bolted to the rear of it carry the projector parts. The motor 30 drives a shaft 31. This carries worms 57 and 63 which drive respectively claw feed mechanism through a worm wheel 56 and sprockets 59 and 68 through gears 66, 65 and 68. The forward end of the shaft carries a worm 64 driving a worm wheel 70 on a shaft 71 which drives the sprocket 60 and the take-up spool through worm gearing 72, 74, 73, 75. The projection lamp 28, with reflector 29, is mounted in the housing 8a on a transverse dovetail guide 27. The sound lamp 21 is mounted in a housing 20 on a dovetail 19a. The projection lamp is cooled by air induced through an aperture 43 in the front of the casing 8a by a fan 33 on the shaft 31 and expelled through apertures 45. A deflector 44 is provided. Another fan 32 induces air through holes 38 in the .sound lamp housing and expels it through holes 42 in the motor housing. The film passes from the gate 50 to the sprocket 59 round the sound drum 9 journalled in the tube 3 on bearings 10. A fixed tube 12 attached to the base at 14 extends through the drum and contains the photoelectric cell 16 which receives light from the lamp 21 through the aperture 18. The drum 9 is provided with a flywheel 11.
