Abstract
511,301. Refrigerating. ELECTROLUX, Ltd. Feb. 24, 1938, No. 5880. Convention date, Feb. 24, 1937. [Class 29] Absorption systems.-A continuous-cycle inert gas system having low and high temperature evaporators 16, 18, Fig. 1, and the usual heat exchanger 14 for the weak gas mixture passing from the absorber 11 to the low temperature evaporator and the strong gas mixture flowing to the absorber is provided with a second exchanger 15, where the weak gas before entry into the low temperature evaporator is cooled by the gas mixture flowing from the low temperature evaporator to the high temperature evaporator. In the embodiment for a cabinet the evaporators are supplied from main and auxiliary condensers 27, 40, Fig. 3, the first receiving vapour from the generator through a conduit 25 and rectifier 26. The condensers become effective in turn at successively higher cooling-air temperatures, and the condensate collected in a U-seal 28 flows through a conduit 30 to a precooler 31 the vapour space of which is connected to the heat exchanger 14. A further condenser 42 for abnormal conditions is connected to the top of the seal and condensate therefrom drains at 39 to the rich gas space of exchanger 14. The precooler 31 is preferably arranged within the insulation of the usual removable wall element 51, Fig. 4, of the cabinet carrying the evaporators. The low temperature cooler is formed with ice-making recesses and is insulated except at the front by a layer of sponge rubber 57 having ribs 48, Fig. 6. It is located close to the cabinet top and occupies the whole width so as to have little influence on the storage air circulation. The high temperature evaporator comprises an extended coil having ample fins 43, the gas heat exchangers being arranged in the middle. A drip tray 52 with a central opening 59 is located below it and drains. to a receptacle 53. The high temperature evaporator and gas heat exchangers are at a temperature above freezing, and the low temperature evaporator is screened from the air circulation, so that defrosting may be unnecessary.
