Abstract

511,010. Ball mills. KENNEDY, J. E. Nov. 24, 1938, No. 34188. [Class 59] In a tube mill in which a drive shaft is connected to trunnion opening by spider arms, the arms extend tangentially to and from the hub in the direction of rotation and transmit rotary movement edgewise through the arms. As shown, a drum 5 provided with inlet trunnion 8 and outlet trunnion 9 is mounted on bearings 10, 11 and is driven axially by a motor M through speed reduction gear and flexible coupling 36, 37. The transmission shaft 35 is secured to a hub 32 from which radiate tangential arms 31 helically arranged and forming spokes connected to a flared ring 30, flanged at 33 for connection with the outlet trunnion 9 by bolts and also by a radial key 41. Material is fed to the mill by a spiral scoop 17 connected to a screw conveyer 21 in the trunnion 8. A screen 22 forms with the drum end 25 a chamber for lifting scoops which drop the ground material on to a cone 26 for conveyance to the outlet trunnion 9.
