Abstract

510,090. Photographic emulsions. GROVES, W. W. (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Jan. 26, 1938, No. 2511. [Class 98 (ii)] An emulsion layer is given a matt surface by including a cellulose derivative in finely dispersed form. The degree of fineness is varied by the choice of solvent or using mixtures of solvents. In one example 100 grains of ethyl cellulose are dissolved in 200 c.c. ethyl alcohol and 200 c.c. toluene, 500 c.c. water are gradually run in, giving a dispersion which is added to a molten gelatine silver halide emulsion. Acetyl cellulose in cyclohexanone, dimethyl phthalate or methylene chloride, and benzyl cellulose in toluene or benzene with ethyl alcohol, are also given as examples.
