Abstract
509,721. Screw conveyers. INTERNATIONAL UNICALOR CO., Ltd., TINLEY, E. L., and DAVIS, S. Feb. 9, 1938, No. 4007. [Class 78 (i)] In underfeed stokers of the screw type, the part of the conveyer worm disposed within the furnace comprises a plurality of sleeves provided with helical blades and mounted in spaced relationship on a common driving shaft. The sleeve 35 nearest to the entrance to the furnace tube 10 is provided with a helical blade 36 of greater pitch than that of the blade 38 provided on the sleeve 37 near the middle of the tube. The sleeves 39 near the inner end of the tube have blades 41 of less pitch than that of the blade 38, and each of which preferably constitutes one complete turn of the conveyer worm. A sleeve 40, with a blade 42 of pitch similar to the blades 41, may be disposed next to the last sleeve 39, but this blade extends for half a turn only. Packing of fuel in the part 45 is prevented by providing sleeves 43 on the inner end of the driving shaft with blades 44 of opposite hand to that of the blades 36, 38, 41 and 42. Each helical blade may be formed by bending a plate and welding it to the associated sleeve which may be welded to the driving shaft. Tubes 27, 28 connect the furnace tube to the bottom 26 of a hopper 23, and within the tubes sleeves 31 carrying helical blades 32 are mounted on the driving shaft. The end sleeve couples the shank of the conveyer 24 at the bottom of the hopper to the driving shaft.
