509,711. Coated fabrics. McGILL, J. H., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Jan. 19, 1938, Nos. 1836 and 30413. [Class 2 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII] For making coated fabrics, such as leather cloth, having fire resistant properties, there is employed a composition containing colloided nitro-cellulose, and a softening agent therefor, comprising a product obtained by halogenating a condensation product of reaction between castor oil, and a polycarboxylic acid or an anhydride thereof, if desired in presence of a polyhydric alcohol. A solvent softener for the nitrocellulose, e.g., tricresyl phosphate, may be added. Polycarboxylic acids employed are, maleic, fumaric, citric, aconitic, tartaric, phthalic, isophthalic, terephthalic, hexahydrophthalic, succinic, adipic, glutaric, azelaic, suberic, and sebacic. The intermediate condensation products may also contain glycerol or ethylene glycol. condensed therein. In examples, the softening agents employed are brominated castor oil-citrate, castor oil modified glycerol phthalic acid with bromine, brominated castor oil-maleic acid, and chlorinated castor oil-citric acid ; tricresyl phosphate and magnesium ammonium phosphate may also be included in the composition.
