[Class 2 (iii)] Resins are prepared by reacting a polymerization product of high molecular weight which contains free hydroxyl groups or may be transformed into such a compound with an amino-aldehyde or an amino-ketone, e.g. by heating in the presence of a strongly acid catalyst, with or without solvents or-diluents. Polyvinyl alcohol may be reacted with the amino-body, hydroxyl groups remaining unreacted or being acylated, e.g. with formyl, acetyl, propioxyl or butyryl radicles, or acetalised with an unsubstituted aldehyde. Polyvinyl acetate may be saponified and simultaneously or subsequently acetalised with an amino-aldehyde, residual groups being then saponified and simultaneously or subsequently reacted with an unsubstituted aldehyde, e.g. form-, acet-, propion-, butyl-, isobutyl- or benzaldehyde. There may be used all aminoaldehydes and amino-ketones containing at least one substituent -N#<R1># where R1 and R2 are hydrogen or alkyl, e.g. o-, m- and p-aminobenzaldehyde ; o-, m- and p-methyl- and dimethyl-aminobenzaldehyde ; o-, m- and paminoacetophenone, o-, m- and p-aminobenzophenone, and their mono- and di-methyl-, ethyl-, propyl- and butyl-aminoketones; tetramethyl - p : p<1> - diaminobenzophenone ; pyrrolaldehyde ; indolaldehyde. :Besides polyvinyl alcohol there may be used partially saponified polyvinyl esters of organic monocarboxylic acids, e.g. polyvinyl formate, acetate, propionate, butyrate ; interpolymers, e.g. of vinyl formate, acetate, propionate or butyrate with vinyl chloride, methyl or ethyl maleate, maleic anhydride or methyl or ethyl acrylate. The products may be used, alone or with artificial fibrous material such as acetyl cellulose, in the production of artificial fibres.
