Abstract
508,755. Distributers for seeds. BEEMER, E. A. W. Sept. 30, 1938, No. 28523. [Class 6 (i)] A seed distributer is provided with a reservoir which rotates as the distributer moves along the ground, the seeds being lifted from the bottom to the top and falling in a stream within the reservoir. Adjustable means are provided for dividing the falling stream into two parts, one being led to the furrow in the ground and the remainder falling back into the reservoir. The adjustable means may be moved continuously to open and close the seed exit and thus cause the seeds to be sown at intervals. Fig. 1 shows the implement having a hollow seed reservoir 2 which has an opening in one side closed by a stationary plate 3 as shown in Fig. 9. The plate 3 forms a part of the frame 1 of the implement and supports various members within the reservoir which do not rotate therewith. The reservoir is provided inside with flights 7 which lift the seeds and drop them in a stream down a fixed spout 8 beneath which is a movable tube 11 leading to a fixed tube 9 which conducts the seeds to the ground. The position of the tube 11 determines the proportion of seeds delivered to the tube 9. The tube 11 is rigidly secured to a shaft 12 which is journalled in the plate 3 and can be rotated to move the upper end of the tube 11 relatively to the spout 8. The extent to which the shaft 12 can be rotated is determined by an arm 13 fixed to the shaft 12 and provided with a projection 16 extending into a slot 15 in a plate 14 pivoted on the shaft 12. The end of the slot 15 forms a stop for the projection 16. The position of the plate 14 can be varied by a link 17 connected to a screw 18 carrying a nut 19. Rotation of the shaft 12 is produced by an arm 22 fast on the Shaft and connected by a bent spring 40 to an arm 25 pivoted to a fixed frame 24. The arm 25 carries a member 26 which is rocked periodically by engagement with a series of pins 27 which project through one side of the reservoir 2. The rocking movement of the member 26 is transferred through the arm 25 and spring 40 to the shaft 12. The pins 27 have a part of their inner ends cut away as shown at 30 in Fig. 10 so that by turning the pins half way round they no longer engage the member 26 and the distance between the seeds delivered to the tube 9 can thus be varied. To sow a continuous row of seeds, the shaft 12 is fixed with the arm 13 and its projection 16 at the end of the slot 15. The arm 13 is fixed by a pin 42 mounted eccentrically on a disc rotatably mounted on the plate 14. The implement shown in Fig. 1 is provided with a furrow opener 33 and furrow closer 34 and a wheel 35 for compacting the earth of the closed furrow.
