508,685. Separating gases by liquefaction. LEVIN, 1. H. Dec. 28, 1937, No. 35834. [Class 8 (ii)] Air is cooled by passage through an exchanger 14, and divided into two streams, one of which passes through a further exchanger 9 and an expansion valve and emerges in a partly liquefied condition ; the other stream passes through an expansion engine 25 and emerges very cold and in an unsaturated condition. The two streams are reunited in a coil 31 where they produce a saturated mixture, the liquid particles in which are removed by a baffle 32 in the base of the rectifier 1, 2. The separated oxygen and nitrogen are conveyed by pipes 17, 6 to the two exchangers to cool the incoming air. Specification 366,934 is referred to.
