Abstract
508,249. Optical sound - reproducing apparatus. RCA PHOTOPHONE, Ltd., and UNDERHILL, J. April 14, 1938, No. 11615. [Class 40 (ii)] A circuit arrangement for reproducing from push-pull sound records comprising two-photoelectric elements A, B connected with the input circuit of an amplifier by means of a resistancecapacity network so arranged that the output of one photo-electric element is in reverse phase with that of the other, is characterized. in that the two photo-electric elements are either both connected with a single source of direct current or each is connected with a separate source, a resistance 13 being connected in the anode circuit of one photo-electric element A and another resistance 19 in the cathode circuit of the other photo-electric element B, the said anode and cathode being connected in parallel through condensers 20, 21 with one input terminal 23 of the amplifier. In a modification of the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the battery 11 is replaced by a resistance network connected across any suitable voltage source. Fig. 2 shows a further modification in which the anode and cathode respectively of the cells B, A are connected together and to an adjustable tapping 25 on a potentiometer connected across the terminals of the battery 11. Condensers 27, 28, providing a low resistance path for alternating current, are connected between the tapping point 25 and the terminals of the battery. The potentiometer 26 may be omitted, and the tapping point 25 adjustably connected to the battery near the centre. Instead of providing separate photo-electric cells as shown, a double cell comprising two photo-electric elements in one envelope may be used.
