[Classes 102 (i) and 102 (ii)] [Also in Group VI] A syringe comprising an elas. tic fluid storage chamber and e self contained piston and cylinder pump for charging the chamber with fluid is charac terized by the provision of a rubber nozzle tube 10 and e housing 4 into which it is re. tractable, these parts having co-operating means whereby the tube can be sprung into or elas. tically retained in a position in which it will remain extended, while the nozzle 12 is so constructed that after the tube 10 has been retracted, it will close the syringe. when the latter is pressed nozzle end first, against a support, so.that liquid in the pump cylinder is forced into 'the storage chamber, and will open the syringe when the pressure is released upon the suction stroke of the pump to enable a fresh charge to enter the cylinder. Apart from the construction of the nozzle tube &c., the syringe shown is constructed as disclosed in Specification 455,965. The nozzle tube 10 is either formed with a collar 14 to be sprung over a shoulder 17 on the end of tube 4, or is tapered near the enlargement 13 to grip the passage 18 elastically. As shown, when the tube 10 is in the retracted position, the nozzle seats against the end of tube 4. The front face of the nozzle is made of soft rubber so that when it is pressed against the bottom of a vessel of liquid, the passages 19 are closed. A single central passage may be provided, and the front face of the nozzle may be of spherical or conical form. The nozzle and tube 10 may be moulded in one piece, or as shown, may be solutioned or vulcanized together. The tube 10 is slightly curved to assist its retention in housing tube 4.
